Vale mining autonomous trucks (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, as I have explained in other threads here TO,  Vale mining had two big disasters with big mud dams in Minas Gerais, Brazil in the last three years that caused the death of hundreds employees and other people that lived in the area affect by the mud. After that, many procedures have been made to prevent other accidents like those and also to prevent people to stay in the areas in front of the big dams. It includes the train crews and also all drivers that need to cross those areas.
The train that cross the areas in front of the dams are autonomous and include Vale narrow gauge and MRS broad gauge ore trains. Each company has its own autonomous device to control the trains. They are not controlled by remote devices. A special software was developed to command the train alone, so they do not need any human interference after the program is turned on by the engineer before he leaves the cab.
The video shows the autonomous trucks.

Thanks for posting! Is there any info on who developed the autonomous tech and any press on it, especially for the MRS and Vale trains?

Autonomous trains I get, but autonomous trucks is about the scariest video I ever saw. Reminds me of the 1973 movie KILLDOZER.

Thanks for the interesting videos. Seeing trucks running with no drivers makes me uneasy.

Hi, I have no data on the system for while, but received this picture of the screen of the main computer of MRS autonomous train. The project was developed by MRS, GE and other Brazilian  companies. Also, I added two pics showing how the throtle is moved by the computer.
