Speeding down hill (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, I received this video and pictures from a friend, Fernando GP, a guy that use to visit the waterfalls along the abandonned tracks of Soturno Hill. In Matilde, ES state. This line was built by old Leopoldina Railway to get coffee in that mountains in the end of 1800's. Later it became governnent owned RFFSA until the privatization in 1996, when former FCA get the rights to explore the tracks for thirty years. FCA was taken over by VLI ten years ago,  that abandonned the tracks about six years ago.

Enjoy

Thanks Pedro for a very INTERESTING series! Really liked the videos of the speeder speeding along with all the people enjoying the ride. Too bad that spectacular railroad is abandoned. Enjoyed the gravel train video when line was still in operation.

That was one heck of a railroad.  That sheer rock wall and track on it is amazing.

How many KMs did the track run down hill  before the grade ended?

Hi, that Hill is made of many "up and down". This section we see in the video has 16 Km from one station to another. The guys use to run about 1 km speeding down hill.

Thanks Pedro.  To be a person who determines the route of a railroad you surely must have an imaginative mind. And, a pocket book full of money!
