Hi, today early in the morning I went to ENG yard to wait for cast iron train O682  that brought brand new SD70ACe/45 7047 from EMD plant to MRS. The unit wears a special painting celebrating the renewal of a new concession of more 34 years of operations. This is the first new SD model MRS purchased. It bought three SD70ACe and one SD80ACe Demonstrators from EMD, plus this unit 7047 brand new. They will be used to pull grain trains in São Paulo state.

Wonder why the engine carries two numbers, 7047 and 2056?

Yo Rezende!

The hashtag #MRS2056 is the purpose of this special painting: the company got the rights to operates until 2056. Here in Brazil, the tracks belongs to the governnent and the companies get the rights to operate them in auctions. MRS first contract started in 1996 and should end in 2026, but they anticipated the renewal this year for more 30 years after 2026, so until 2056.

7047 is an SD80ACe? It has 3 radiator fans..

The SD70ACe/45 are mounted on a SD80ACe plataform. If the costumer want to do an upgrade to SD80ACe, it will be necessary to change the prime mover only. 
EMD of Brazil produced only one SD80ACe, the Demonstrator 8080 that now was also sold to MRS. The unit was rented to Rumo railroad.
