When I was a photographer for Uncle Sam I was fortunate to be able to spend some time in Bolivia. Here's a couple of shots of the electric line that ran from La Paz to El Alto in 1966. When I took these photos El Alto had just a handful of people now nearly a million live there. It cost twenty five cents to ride this trolley from La Paz up to El Alto, The elevation is 13,600 feet at this location.

A quick and dirty Google dig appears to reveal that over the years the old trolley system has been replaced with an elevated cable car ride that now ferries passengers up to the El Alto district west of La Paz. Price for a ride is now apparently $8.00 US dollars.

More like 15 to 20 BOB (2-3 USD) for single-use tickets on the various lines; much less for passes.
