Western Japan on the beaten track

here are some of the better known trains and remember these were taken nearly a decade ago  and there have been many changes in high speed trains since then

none of the railway crew  i met  and watched did not object to being photographed in fact they took pride that a foreigner was showing interest in their everyday duties

Same experience here. Employees assigned to the Shinkansen have risen through the ranks by merit, and being proud of their job (even the silly finger pointing) has a lot to do with that. I suspect they know how to deal with huge crowds of camera carrying people (railfans and not-so-railfans), so having just you take photos of them was not bothersome at all.

Occasionally, I'd run into Shinkansen crew who'll chat with me as a railfan. On a Doctor Yellow chase few years ago, Shinkansen conductor saw me detrain at Maibara to record video of Doctor Yellow passing his (and my) train. He smiled and told me exactly what time the passing will take place - he knew, since it's his job to "highball" the passing Dr. Yellow.
