Wonderful! Those images brought back great memories of Hiroshima. Thank you so much.

Japanese tram systems are all rather interesting. I missed a ferry which gave me just enough time to ride into Kumamoto and back from the station before the next train into the Aso caldera. I had hoped to ride the steam train into Aso but that didn't work in the end. Imagine my surprise when, in the centre of Kumamoto, I came across what appeared to be a small steam loco hauling two small carriages along tram trackage. It stopped, the loco uncoupled and a "jack" deployed from the base of the loco which raised the wheels off the tracks. The staff then pushed the loco on what was essentially a built in turntable (the "jack") so it faced the opposite direction. They ran it round the carriages, coupled up and set off again.

When we visited Hiroshima we stayed on the island of tsukushima (popularly known as Miyajima), best known for its "floating" torii gate. We rode into Hiroshima next day using our JR pass but we came back to the island ferry using the tram which is almost an interurban except it uses (well, used when we were there) the articulated cars seen above.

I love the stone work over the tracks.  That is a lot of work to put down, and must be a lot of work to tear up when maintenance calls.
