Hi, an empty grain train derailed today morning in Ortigueira, PR inbthe South. The first conclusion refer to a damage of a spring key seen in one of the pictures below. Pictures received from friends.

In the last picture , the axel with blue paint on it appears to be broken.  Is that correct?

Is the clean up by contractor with side boom dozers ?

Rumo. VLI and Vale use cranes, excavators and front loaders to clean up the site.

Pileups like this can happen at 25-30 mph. High speed is not always a factor, soft road bed, old ties, lots of mass running in before brakes go into emergengy and even after.

Meter gauge, right?

Looks like the heavy equipment and lading makes a mess when a derailment gets started.

Yes, note the BB+BB trucks. These GE ES43BBi weights 196 tons like the EMD SD70ACe-BB. A GE BB40-9WM weights 160 tons.
