Tokyo Sakura Tram near Shin-Koshinzuka
Author: Hiroshi

Here are some photos that I took this afternoon.

A good ole class 7700 number 2 made a brief stopped at Shin-Koshinzuka stop.
It dropped and picked up a few riders there.
Waiting for the signal indication, it started crossing Route 17.
So it is literally "street crossing" here.
Slowly, but surely it proceeded to Minowabashi via Oji.

cabsignaldrop-san:

Thank you for stopping by.

The minowa-bound tram took off from the stop.
At the distance, it met with the Waseda-bound tram.
Now, the Waseda-bound one is approaching the stop.

cabsignaldrop-san:

Yes, Sir, "Hop'n'ride trams everywhere in Tokyo, once upon a time."

But this section of the rail is the last stand of the line.

Meantime, car 9002 made a brief stop at Shin-Koshinzuka.

Thank you, DKay-san to stop by.

Car 9001 (Deep red and cream scheme) and 9002 (Blue and cream scheme) was built in 2007 to replace class 8500.
When the city decided to introduce new cars, a classical look and feel was the choice.

Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the "Toaran" mascot character, Car 9002 has a special sign underneath the cab window.

When Car 9002 got the green lite, it slowly crossing the street. And so was I.

It all depends on how the traffic signal would be.
But it will a few minutes' ride to Koshinzuka from Shin-Koshinzuka.

Trams have to cross the street while buses have to cross the tracks here.

At Koshinziuka stop, the Minowa bound tram came to stop.
Dropping and picking up riders, then made a run to Shin-Koshinzuka stop.

Class 8900 was built between 2015 and 2016. It intended to replace class 7000.
Car 8908 was built in 2016 by ALNA Syaro in Osaka.

Yes, Thank you symph1-san, for stopping by this thread.

Meantime, Waseda bound tram was approaching to Shin-Koshinzuka stop already.

It was class 7700, ex-7000 class tram.

Class 7000 cars were built in 1954. By the 1970's most of them were retired from the service but a few were left.
In 1978, the remaining cars were upgraded and put back to the service.
In 2016, the remaining class 7000s were supposed to be retired. At least that was the plan.
But the city reconsidered the plan.  Instead, the city decided to rebuild the remaining 8 cars once again.
This time they were reclassified to be class 7700.
Cars 1 to 2 were pained in green. Cars 3 to 5 were pained in blue. Cars 6 to 8 were pained in deep red.

While Car 7703 was at the stop, Car 8908 slowly crossed the street.
Passing by Car 7703 and proceeded to Minowa.
Car 7703 now waited for the signal indication to cross the street.

As you may have noticed from the previous set of photos that the driver released his break and moved the car a bit forward.
This is the standard practice that almost all drives follow at the crossing here.

Now as he got a green lite, he slowly crossed the street and preceded to Koshinzuka stop which is only a minute away.

Another Minowa-bound tram left Shin-Koshinzuka stop.
Car #8810 was built in 2009 to replace class 7500.
It is the only car of class 8800 painted in the yellow scheme.

That seems like a good paint scheme, with the yellow.  I wonder why they decided to paint only one.

norm1153-san

Perhaps, "a happy yellow train" theme has been popular among kids who live nearby the line.

In 2011, Tokyo Government had a co-marketing campaign with Tokyu's Setagaya line to promote "a happy yellow train."
It was rather a successful campaign.
A similar one had appeared in Keihin Kyuko.

Here are the photos of class 8803 wearing a rose-red scheme.

BTW, Cars 8801 to 8805 have this scheme.

This is class 8900.  A total of 8 cars were built in 2015.
Car 8907 still wars Tokyo 2020 signs.
