Manchuria 1985
Author: bobwilcox

In 1985 I made a trek from San Francisco to Manchuria via London, Moscow, and Irkutsk. In Irkutsk, USSR, we caught a train for Qiqihar, China. The purpose of the trip was to witness steam railroading without diesel locomotives. During two weeks, I saw one diesel-powered train. I took these shots in and around Shenshu, Heilongjiang, China.
  1. An RM class pacific gets a Harbin bound passenger train underway.
  2. The forestry railway 0-8-0 is pulling a log train with disconnected trucks; there is no train air.
  3. Double-headed QJs. During this trip, we saw one QJ less than a month old.

More please. Weren't QJ's still built into the 90's? Some had very short lives.

The last QJ 2-10-2's were built in 1988.  The last regular mainline (non-industrial or tourist) use in China was iin 2005.
