Hi, last Saturday 11/27, EMD delivered the first SD70ACeLC "Low Clearance" to broad gauge MRS railroad. This model was developed to fit the low tunnels on MRS Centro Line, of former Central of Brazil railroad. MRS operated a roundabout system where the loaded trains go from mine to port by Ferrovia do Aço (Steel railroad) and the empties return to the mine by the Centro Line. Since the normal SD70ACe / SD80ACe do not have profile to pass through the tunnels in that line, EMD developed the SD70LC to compete with the GE's AC44 that dominate the ore trains on MRS system. The new unit will start the tests in the Centro Line soon. Other two units are under construction at EMD plant.

Hi, not for a long time, for sure. Running through those big tunnels up to 8,680 meters long will be a challenge to this SD70. The common SD70ACe failed on the first tests there. They returned to EMD to receive special air ducts at the sides to allow better refrigeration and air intake. In fact, another SD70ACe arrived in Horto shops last week to receive those strange ducts.

What does MRS2056 mean?  I know it is not the engine number.

MRS and all other railroad companies here got the rights to operate the tracks in auctions done in 1996 for a thirty year agreement that will finish in 2026. But the main railroads like Rumo, Vale and MRS got a renewall of the agreement to operate more thirty years after the end of the first one. So, these railroads have the rights to operate until 2056. This special painting was developed to be applied to some units to celebrate this new agreement done among MRS and the government.
