Almost buried in mud (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Another accident due to heavy rains here. Freight train C706 was almost buried in mud when passing through a tight cut at Km 615 near EDY location. It is near the ranch of my friend Cabral, the owner of those railfan dogs that I posted one or two thread here in TO.

1- 3) The BB40-9W 8678 was hit by a mud slide in a cut at Km 615 in the tracks to the West.

It will take weeks or months, to repair all that damage.  When they clear out some of the cuts it will be interesting to compare "then and now" pictures of the changes.

Some of these cuts look much narrower and steeper on the sides than cuts that we see in the US or Canada.  That, and the heavier rain that Brazil gets at this time, which creates the mudslides shown, probably have a lot to do with these events.  There simply is no place for the mud to flow except over the tracks.
