International Railroad Discussion > More FCAB Chile action on the Atacama Desert

All taken last week by L. Paschen,   aka Senora Miller.   Her photos show the three commodities that FCAB hauls.

1.  One-off end cab GR12 1408 eastbound with sulphuric acid tank cars at Cumbre
2.  GT42AC 3213-12 westbound with copper anodes at Baquedano
3.  GE C23-EMP 2604 westbound with the Bolivian boxcars as it nears Sierra Gorda.  These cars carry metal concentrates which are loaded into containers for export at Portozuelo, Chile.

What is a BAQUEDANO ??

The name of the town.   Both Ferronor and FCAB pass through on each side of a large station. It's the location of the Ferronor shops, and an ancient roundhouse with some steam loco relics.   An FN  Baldwin 2-8-2 based there is/was somewhat operable (short distances)  and has been used on excursions for a few miles out of town.   Ferronor has a new acid haul contract which will result in much more traffic as well as new EMD units based there.   Then there's the FN line to Argentina which sees a bit of traffic.

Not what, who. He was the C in C of Chilean forces during the War of the Pacific, and very briefly president.
