International Railroad Discussion > Progress Rail launches hibrid locomotive GT38H in BrazilDate: 09/21/22 04:49 Progress Rail launches hibrid locomotive GT38H in Brazil Author: pedrop Hi, the news from Progress Rail of Brazil:
RUMO WILL RECEIVE FOR TESTS TWO NEW AND EXCLUSIVE GT38H LOCOMOTIVES Progress Rail located in Hortolândia SP today announced its plans to supply hybrid locomotives, combining diesel engines and batteries, taking advantage of the company's continuous innovations in propulsion technologies. Rumo in Brazil will receive the first hybrid locomotives from Progress Rail in 2022. They will be two GT38H intermediate power locomotives and should be delivered for testing in regional freight services. “These hybrid units will provide fuel and emissions reductions with less upfront investment for our valued customers like Rumo.” commented Marty Haycraft, President and CEO of Progress Rail. “We are pleased to support our customers with solutions that help them achieve sustainability goals.” These locomotives use modular architecture to remain flexible to future fuels, maintain the capacity of their diesel counterparts, and are capable of charging regenerative and external batteries. “Sustainability guides all our actions at Rumo, so the partnership with Progress Rail is very important to us and aims to bring the best solution to our operations”, says Marcus Jorge, director of rolling stock at Rumo. "With the positive result of the tests, we will be able to increase the number of hybrid locomotives. In addition to the environmental impact, they will add more comfort to our drivers and increase safety on our railway." Progress Rail has already supplied two PR22 diesel locomotives for CPTM and an electric one for Vale, the similarity between them is only in the fairing and structure, but the technologies introduced so far bring variations between Electric, Electric Diesel and Hybrid. Love how funky it looks. It's on the same frame as the others, so I'm guessing a CAT engine instead of EMD, though it has the same inverter cabinets right behind the cab and dynamic brakes at the end of the long hood. coming to Pacific Harbor LInes. What is interesting is that we won't see SD70J units until 2024, Brazil is ahead of us! Out Date: 09/26/22 17:04 Re: Progress Rail launches hibrid locomotive GT38H in Brazil Author: zorz callum_out Wrote:
