They're too far apart (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, today morning I met a rail train class V here in town. It was on track 1 waiting another train switching in the yard. The V train was leaded by three fallen flag fca orange livery BB's. When we look to the front porches of the couple of BB40's we realise how far the cabs are apart from each other.

1 - 3) VLI BB36-7 8501, BB40-T3 8119 and BB40-3 8130 with a rail train here in town.

I've always liked the FCA paint schemes - both the old blue and the more recent orange as well.

As for the 8501, any idea where they took the dynamic brakes that were previously behind the cab?

Great pics!

I am not sure, but it looks the dynamic brakes of the GE's were not moved to other locations. I think only the EMD moved them to the rear end. But I will pay attention of this details when I see the next BB36 here in town.

9 - 10) Here are some pics I took years ago to show how the dinamic brakes of the EMD's were moved to the rear end.
In this link you can see how they modified the SD to BB.
EMD conversion to BB trucks

Thanks, as always, for the photos.

Do you know what the US numbers/owners were of 8130 and 8119?

Hi Ted,
Unfortunately we could not discover the original owner of most of the units in 81xx series. They belongs to Progress Rail and we didn't have a friend there to give us the original data about the units when they arrived in Brazil.
