Limestone train C164 (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Today morning I was visiting Nova Granja yard - ENG when I heard the horns of a train coming through the valley. It was the limestone train C164. The nice aspect of that train was the leading unit Vale 1202. That is the last dash 9 using the old CVRD / EFVM brown livery. CVRD was the original initials of Vale mining (Companhia Vale do Rio Doce).

1) A view od ENG yard;
2) The old master agent house from former EFCB railroad;
3) The "new" Nova Granja station from old RFFSA railroad.

4) Another view of Nova Granja station. The name means New Farm Chicken;
5) The station was moved about ten years ago and the employees moved EVP station here in town;
6) The old CTC pannel.

Yes Pedro, a very nice video of a very long Limestone train.  Would be interesting to know the origin and destination of this action.

Very Nice series Pedro. I enjoyed the video of the Limestone train with the 1202 on the point. The horn sounded like an old Santa Fe freight. Like the first picture with the palm trees.

Blaine, the limestone comes from many quarries around here and are loaded to the trains in Matozinhos (EMS) and Nova Granja (ENG) yards. The costumers are Usiminas and Arcelor Mittal / CST steel mills. CST receives the limestone in containers. The limestone can be in powder or granulated. The distance by rail from EMS yard to Usiminas is about 270 km and from ENG (limestone in containers) to CST steel is about 600 km.
Usiminas is served by Vale mainline. The passenger station across Usiminas is Intendente Câmara (VIC). CST do not have connection by rail and that's why the limestone is delivered by containers that are unload from the trains in Aroaba yard. A Google view of Usiminas steel mill here:
