International Railroad Discussion > Mongolia - finaleDate: 06/26/23 16:04 Mongolia - finale Author: 86235 On my way back home today. It's been a wonderful, full on, hard core railfanning 10 days. I'm exhausted but I can't wait to come back!
Last three shots were taken South of Ulaanbaatar where the line is climbing across the steppe like landscape over the Bayan Pass. Like the UK the RoW in Mongolia is fenced, and this in a country with the lowest density of population on earth, but with herds of semi-wild horses, cattle, yaks and sheep roaming about! Hence the fences. Date: 06/26/23 17:04 Re: Mongolia - finale Author: swaool Much appreciate your Mongolian series, thanks for posting these wonderful photos. The scenery to me looks a lot like Montana. In fact, that last shot looks like the train could be descending Evaro Hill.

But there is something unique about the Steppe landscape Date: 06/27/23 11:40 Re: Mongolia - finale Author: pedrop Very beautifull those huge openned sceneries.

That container train intrigues me: is the train that runs from Europe to China to offer shippers a "land alternative" to ocean transit? That's alot of containers, it seems, for Mongolia. Date: 06/28/23 04:57 Re: Mongolia - finale Author: 86235 coach Wrote:

It's an international train, virtually all the trains you see are either bridge traffic between Russia and China or it's natural resources from Mongolia - coal and iron ore - bound for China. The major domestic traffic is Mongolian coal for the Ulaanbaatar power plants. |
