Railfaning in São Carlos 2023 - part 1 (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, on September 16 - 17, I was attending the 14th Model Railroading and Railfaning meeting in São Carlos, SP (ZSK code in Rumo system). The meeting is a great opportunity to meet friends, by new models and railroad related stuff and also railfaning the Rumo mainline, called Export Corridor.

1 - 2) The first train I watched in the morning was leaded by former ALL AC44i 637 and Rumo 769. The São Carlos cityhall and Rumo Co. did an agreement to build  another viaduct over the tracks near the station to finish with the grade crossing we see here;

3) Fibria (Now Suzano) AC44i 8417 was the furst DPU of this 120 cars train.

4) Brado 9918 is the second DPU;

5) The video.

That's all for today

Hi, Brado is one of Rumo costumers. It has a fleet of well cars, flat cars and a few locomotives in meter and broad gauges.

Interesting the walkways located on top of the grain cars have been removed, is this a railroad or government mandate?

Hi Jeff
The three main reasons we do not see the traditional walways on the top of the modern grain hoppers in Brazil are:
1st - the traditional ones use to break easily and can be a trap to the employees. Also, they need more maintenance;
2nd - The car builders developed an anti slip paint that is easier to maintain and do the same effect of the old screens;
3rd - the traditional walkway encourage vandal to climp to the top of the cars. So, it is better do not have them. In all locations where the employees need to climb to the top of the car, there are safety wires where they can hang their safety belt .
