EFE Chile GE Shovel Nose action this morning
Author: masterphots

This morning we chased the Santiago to Limache vintage train.  Perfect day and the two units are slowly being fully lettered for FFCC del Estado (government railroad).  Here are Lolo's digital photos;  mine have to wait until the film is processed in Denver.  No 16012 was on the point, with 16005 trailing.  All photos by Gloria "Lolo" Paschen.

1.   Coming into Til Til,  a flag stop where the train usually picks up passengers.
2.   Passing the ruins of the substation at Rungue.   Shortly after Fepasa became the freight operator,  the wires came down.
3.   Entering E. Meiggs and the beginning of the climb up Tabo Pass.

From 1920s until around 1998,  when new freight operator Fepasa took delivery of 14 SDM39-2s, (from NRE Chicago)  which allowed them to shut off the power.  This line is the mainline from Santiago to the port at Valparaiso.  The west end of the line from Limache to Valparaiso,  abuut 40 miles, is electrified and
offers EMU commuter service which serves the greater Valpo/Vina del Mar metro area.

Almost thought White Pass got a new scheme and all of the snow melted.

Cool shots!

Nice. Very nice.

So if a guy came wandering through SCL in, oh, say, October…. would these be laying about somewhere conspicuous?
