South African Steam.
Author: Utahfannz

I enjoyed Railriders recent post on his FarRails trip, and reference and pic's of steam at sunset.
Back on our 7 week trip to the Republic back in August -September 1973, we planned a week
in DeAar, back then the haven for "25" Condesenser's and "25NC" 4.8.4's, the aim to get "25"s
working South of DeAar, as this was handled predominatley by this class. (although GE "34" class
"U26" were making inroads) To cut a long story short we were heading back to DeAar and decieded to
call into Merriman, as the sun was getting low on horizon, we did not regret that! After being told by the
station signalman we would get 3 trains in a 30min period. Results.
1. Double "25"s North Bound.
2 "25" South Bound Parcels Train.
3. Siloete attempt.
4. An extra shot, Sunrise shot "15AR" s on passenge train heading to Sterksrtom.
