The dining cars mentioned in the story came with the 2nd generation Class 100s, which was part of the double-decker car #8 (16 car set). I did not get a chance to use it before they were discontinued around 2000, but I did get to see it at the SCMaglev & Railway Park: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?6,3557928,3558792#3558792 I did use the cafeteria cars onboard Class 0s before they were discontinued in 2003 - I think my last ever order was curry & rice. Regular Shinkansen riders are generally a good sport dealing with weather/disasters. I posted a story of riding through a delay several months ago, due to downed catenary wires. The story speculates that the SCMaglev under construction is to mitigate the disaster risk, which isn't quite correct. But that's off topic and I'll save it for another thread. Don't forget that Tokyo Monorail, which was also constructed with the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in mind celebrated its 60th Anniversary few weeks ago, September 17.
