International Railroad Discussion > EFE Chile: water under the bridgeDate: 11/21/24 08:05 EFE Chile: water under the bridge Author: masterphots In my 25+ years in Chile, I'd never seen water under the bridge at Polpaico. Due to heavy rains in late autumn/early winter, here's how it looked on July 20, 2024. The train is the Santiago-Limache Tren de Recuerdo (train of memory) headed by EFE's restored GE-Alco shovel noses. I'll chase the same train tomorrow morning although I'd guess the water is long gone. But the bridge abutments have been painted in the national colors....always something new to get me lineside yet again.

Also on the less frequent trains to Temuco and Concepcion. On those a shovel nose is behind the electric as far as Chillan. The E30 is left at Chillan where the wire ends. From there the train continues behind the shovel nose. On the way back to Santiago, at Chillan they return the E30 to the point. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 11/22/24 04:31 by masterphots.
