International Railroad Discussion > South African Steam. !973. DeAar.Date: 03/15/25 23:02 South African Steam. !973. DeAar. Author: Utahfannz Back some time ago, I posted some shots of the "25"class. Masterpots made the comment regarding the action there, correct in every way. Back in September in !973 we spent a week there, travelling North and South of there.Being a kiwi engineman, and the great ties that South Africa and New Zealand had in the sport of Ruby ( they concidered us there only true foes in that sport) it opened many doors for us, also having a mate who was a driver John Giberthorpe, one spent a lot of time in the depot. One spent hours there riding the footplate in the yard and depot, being shown the inards of the smokebox of fan arrangment of a "25"class. and a highlight out on the road of a "25NC" being there till midnght, mixing with the enginemen. never Forgotten. I liked the B&W medium, in addition to color.
1. "25NC"s 3424 "Margorie" and 3426 "Delise" 2. This shot in 1978. when "25"class were being converted back to "25NC"s with the condensing gear removed fron tender, tender being nicknamed by crews "Worshond" translated Dachshund Sausage dog. 3. "25" class 3499-3500 under coaling stage with "15AR" "Rosie" picking up unloaded cars. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 03/16/25 08:08 Re: South African Steam. !973. DeAar.
