I knew Mariana town in 1996 when the tracks were abandonned. A few years later, Vale developed a tourism train linking Mariana to Ouro Preto. They got a 2-10-2 Skoda from Teresa Cristian rwy, but the steam engine proved to be too big for the project and then, Vale sent some G12 to operate the train. Nowadays, the tourism train is not working and I have my questions if it will be back one day.
If you do not mind, I add these pics to ilustrate Mariana nowadays. 4) The station received new colors when overhauled by Vale; 5) The Skoda 2-10-2 that started the torurism train; 6) One of the G12 Vae sent to lead the train. Some wer painted black to match the steam engines in the beggining of the project. BTW, the track were removed in the entire branch. Only the section between Mariana and Outro preto was preserved by the project. Pedro Rezende Vespasiano MG, https://youtube.com/c/minasgeraisrailways1 Edited 1 time(s). I presume that Mariana is still part of the tourism heading to Ouro Petro, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/19/25 14:26 by arrowspatial. Railroad Stations in Brazil THE STATION: The station in the historic city of Mariana was opened in 1914, when the extension of the Ponte Nova branch was opened, from Ouro Preto to that city. This would have happened on October 12th, but, looking at the news in the box below, from June 24th of the same year, we see that there is a discrepancy in dates. The station remained at the end of the line until 1923/6, when the branch was extended to Ponte Nova. At least until 1980, there was still movement of passengers who could use mixed trains. Afterwards, the station was closed, spent some time abandoned, was renovated and finally in 2006 underwent a major renovation to be the final station of the tourist train from Ouro Preto to Mariana operated by FCA from 05/05/2006 - the second, as another train of this type, the first, operated by RFFSA, operated from 1986 to 1996 using firstly Baldwin and Pacific steamboats and in the end GE U13B diesels. Nowadays the train belongs to Vale mning. The Vale train is pulled by a diesel (previously, it was a Santa Fé steam locomotive from the former E. F. Teresa Cristina, in SC), and with 6 steel cars, one of which is panoramic. The station building then began to serve, in addition to being a station, as a library and as a railway museum, with its external area displaying several ACF cars from the old Central and an administration car from the old Leopoldina, this one serving as a restaurant. 7) Mariana in 1922; 8) Mariana map from 1922.
