International Railroad Discussion > Customer Harassment (Japan)Date: 05/02/25 15:09 Customer Harassment (Japan) Author: cchan006 When I saw these signs, I grinned.
Many professionals (especially conductors on passenger trains) who have to deal with people know "customer is always right" is a marketing brainwash to butter up consumers to spend money. This is NOT an excuse for unprofessional behavior by the "professionals," like the Gate Dragons, but reality is that these signs are closer to the truth in this day and age of Smartphones and entitled behavior. First sign was in a bus. From top left, going clockwise... DO NOT: - use violence, physical or verbal. - make unreasonable requests. - sexually harass the driver. - take photos without permission. My favorite, in terms of artistry is the 3rd one, bottom right corner -the vain guy and the frustrated woman bus driver. Second sign I found at a train station, during a very fun railfan mission. Different artisty, but similar messages. This sign is more polite, asking if you are doing the following "unintentionally" (clockwise, from top left): - use of verbal violence. - photo sharing to social media. - unreasonable requests. - being chatty for too long. (do not talk to the operator) My favorite is the 4th one, lots of "blah blah" captions. While I don't do this in public, I might be too chatty here on TO ("verbal diarrhea") so I have to pay attention. :-) Various transportation agencies in and around Tokyo are doing this coordinated "campaign."
