Question on MPEG extensions
Author: OCtrainguy

I recently purchased and am using a Canon FS200 and downloaded the software, ImageMixer, that came with the camera. The files when downloaded have the extension of .mpg, which is not a valid extension for upload to Trainorders. I am new to this, so I am not sure what can be done. Is there any way to change the extension to another file type, such as .mpeg? Any information would be appreciated.

I am sure there is some sort of movie making software that will allow you to change your format, once you've saved/processed your movie. I don't own a camcorder etc..

Here you go, this explains how to change the extension to .mpeg from .mpg

http://www.mediacollege.com/microsoft/windows/extension-change.html

Todd the Webmaster pointed me in this direction when I tried uploading my first videos and was having the same troubles. Once I followed these directions, the videos uploaded and posted without a problem. Hope this helps you out!

If mpeg and mpg are the same thing (and in my experience
the mpg extension is much more common) then why
doesn't Todd the Webmaster make the no doubt simple
change to the forum software to allow mpg files to
be uploaded unchanged.

jpeg and jpg are the same thing, but nobody forces
you to change the extension of your jpg files.

Thanks for the information. I will give it a try tonight and see if it work. I have a few videos, including R&N 425 from this past Saturday, that I want to share and am new to the digital aspect of taking video. So I am trying to learn as quickly as I can to be able to upload the videos.

I got it to work and got the video uploaded last night. The video is in the Steam Railroading forum. I was also able to upload a video of NS 64J with a pair of SD40-2s on the Shared Assets Lehigh Line in South Plainfield, NJ this morning in the Eastern Railroads forum. Thanks again for all the help.
