Can someone help be figure out how to access a certain photo (date unknown) that is supposedly on alt.binaries.pictures.railroad, or alt.binaries.pictures.rail.

Offline PM is fine. The whole usenet thing is a complete mystery.

I've been on ABPR since the late 1990s. ISPs used to carry usenet, and I suspect that some still do, but heavy-duty users will subscribe to a service such as giganews.com. Even if your ISP does provide usenet, the retention of 'binaries / pictures' is at best problematic. The real trick is getting a decent news 'reader.' For the windows/mac crowd, Thunderbird is good for reading and posting. I'm a long-time linux user, so I use knode, which is part of KDE.

Thanks for all of your fine UP steam postings :-) I'll be happy to help get you going if you take the plunge, but my knowledge is limited to linux.

Thanks. I have a link to the Railfan.net site, but there is no search capability, for something like "Union Pacific".

I have also found UsenetBinaries.com, which is at least scrollable, with over 600 "pages", but still no search capability.

I'm looking specifically for a photo of SP 9205, a passenger car that is now the Clackamas River. The file name is "sp-p9205abr_BobRathkeCollection.jpg" and is part of the story I started with this TO thread:
