How/Where to host stuff on the internet
Author: Clarence

Hi,
For job-hunting purposes my wife needs to put writing samples (pdf and docx mainly) on the internet so she can supply a URL to them. Preferably a fairly concise URL. Anybody have suggestions of how/where to do that?
Thanks,
Clarence, who is usually on the Model board :)

A cloud storage or file sharing service like Dropbox should work for what you need.

She can look at the Dropbox and SmugMug sites to see if either of their services suit her needs. The alternative would be creating her own personal web site.

Google Docs... that's all she'll need.

I've used Christian Web Hosting http://www.christianwebhost.com/ Only had one problem a few years ago and got it fixed in under 30 minutes. No banners or anything else on your pages. They have several plans available, depending on what you want or need. You just need something to create the HTML code. An old copy of MS Front Page is pretty easy to learn and use. There are others out there that are probably cheaper.

Here's another site you might find interesting. http://hosting.editorsreview.org/top15us.html?gclid=COb6o8ji_b8CFSMV7AodbBUA6A I have no idea of it reliability.

Sounds like you got the info you were looking for, I'll second the Dropbox notion, it's free Dropbox.com

For what you are looking to do, Dropbox is probably the easiest, plus it's pretty well-known and "neutral" (no need to offend a potential employer with a website he/she may, er, disagree with. Pick yer battles). It''s free and you can grant access to different files to different people or everyone.

You can also use your own domain, but that entails registering it and paying for hosting. Plus using FTP for uploading files and doind some level of maintenance. But you can then have your own home page (landing page) or pages with links to resume, CV, portfolio, work examples, etc.
