Win 10 taskbar logo issue
Author: fbe

If you wanna talk apple start your own thread, please.

I have been using PSCS6 without issue for a few days in fact even earlier today. Now I want to do a few more images and I have the Ps and Br logos up on the task bar. When I roll the pointer over either logo I get the small popup which shows what is on the minimized screen for both. If I click on Ps that screen opens normally. If I click Br it disappears. If I right click on the popup I get a choice menu with minimize, reduce and maximize amongst others. Selecting any of these just blanks the pop up.

I have closed Bridge and reopened it. I have rebooted the computer with no change. Any ideas?

I have also used search in bridge from the PS screen and Open In Bridge and Camera Raw from a right click on an image in a folder.

Thanks.

Solution?

I again shut down the computer but this time I killed the monitor. Then after a couple of hours off I started the computer then the monitor. When everything settled down I loaded Ps and Br which both went well. I used the task bar icons in the usual manner and all functions worked well for both programs.

I am passing this along in hopes it might help others new to Win 10.

Part II

So the issue developed again. Here is what set it off. I just double clicked on a folder on my desk top and the folder opened up. I decided there were some photos I wanted to look into. I then decided to browse the folder in Adobe Br, opened the software, sent it to the folder and the folder was downloaded but Bridge minimized to a taskbar icon. Then I did a reboot of the computer, opened Bridge and used that to open the folder. All worked well.

I have had issues with Photoshop and Windows Picture Viewer before. If you rotate an image in Windows Viewer or Media, PS will not recognize the image. You must use a Windows program to rotate it back to it's original orientation then PS works just fine.

Wndows10 may have more than one issue ... I'd take my time before jumping into Windows10 ... for instance, Microsoft tracking stuff internally in Win10 on MY computer without my permisson, NSA ties and Social Media acces to MY computer without my permission is a BIG issue ... other active software incompatibilities are possible.  Windows7 works just fine with ALL current software, why open up the risk to your personal computer use by allowing Win10 to take over your computer? ... why be a Crash Test Dummy for Microsoft and even worse the NSA and other Gov't entitties that don't have acronyms yet ... we all know they are out there ... don't give them free access to your computer use ...

I understand what you are saying. Normally I do not change the OS until SP1 is out. I was having some issues with this Win 7 machine so I decided to take the free upgrade offer. Yes, it has cleared up the problem I was having, the machine does run better and faster now. MS's plans are to do immediate software upgrades so the Service Pack upgrade model may be done.

I still have a Win 7 laptop which will remain that way until I am comfortable with Win 10 or decide against it. I still have a laptop running Win XP with a fresh clean install on hand to run heritage programs if needed. It will never go online again.

If you are worried about NSA what do you think about all the computers and components built in China? You don't think the Chicoms have inserted a few Trojan horse programs in a couple, a few, many or all of them?

What will confuse W10 at this time will be the huge log files that MS will be accumulating on your machine. They bog down simple tasks, they keep the machine from shutting down clean until all their log files are sent back to HQ.

NSA snoops on your ISP server, if they are on your machine, you must be special. They'll be on your phone and at your door shortly.

What slows down most Browsers for common web surfing are the ads and cookies that go with them. That's were the money is. The advertisers can access where you have been and where you surt after their ad, that info gets bundled and sold, but not to the NSA. There a few things to do to avoid the mess, but that's beyond discussing W10.

I do not have a land line at the house so my computers are only connected when I need them to be. When I shutdown the computer they are off line so MS will have to wait until later for the logs it wants to see. I never sign up with retailers or service providers for their daily special notifications and coupons and compared to my girlfriend's machine which is signed up to dozens of these deals my machine is rocket speed.

How is Win 10 going to work on the WWW2 which is noncommercial?

Haven't heard about version 2, they have ideas though. I suspect there's money involved.

Good idea about keeping it off the web. Consider using something like CCleaner to remove the MS logs and other junk. I would be an interesting experiment to check around and find how long it takes to get a unknown sourced file that includes controlling Siemans motors.

So,

Ummmm,

Windows 10 is, or is not, actually a virus itself??

I suspected this when, without "upgrading" to Win !0 on my Win 7 machine, I'd get daily (actually, 3 or 4 times daily) notices to "upgrade", without any readily available means to stop receiving such messages.

There IS a way to stop those messages, which I've employed.  But, I wonder if it really stops their probing.

I run three PC's with Win 7 SP1.  On only one of those have I ever updated the software, and that was at least a year ago. The others have never had any updates, and nothing unusual has ever happened on any of them, including the BSOD, or anything else.  So automatic updates are turned off.  I understand that one of the recent updatees to Win7 is what causes the "Upgrade to Win 10" message to pop up.

All these years, no updates, and all is fine.

Wish I had XP on one of my computers.   It worked fine for me andeverything since then has my head spinning.  Course being an old fart does not help.  Startedwith 3.1 and before that a Tandy II.which also worked !

Mundo,

You can find places which can place OEM copies of Win XP on a computer for you. These tend to be independent shops which build computers from scratch. There are also third party programs which will change your desktop to look just like a Win XP desktop in you are running Win 7 or Win 8.

WWW2 is sort of like a parallel web and is strictly non commercial. It was established to share information without having to deal with all the commercial crab, twitter, facebook and whatever which just gets in the way. Universities, businesses who do a lot of research and such are supporters. A university connection can get you onboard.

LarryDoyle,

I wouldn't say the upgrade notice is a virus, it is more like a cookie. I guess you might call the subprogram part of Win 10 running in the background to keep the program up to date and protect against hackers and miscreants a benevolent virus.

Thanks for the explanation of WWW2, the beauty of the Internet is there are places for your own little world. There was talk of re-structuring the common internet but it's pretty much an anarchy at this time. There are ways to make your own little world, which is not always a nice place, and also ways to avoid the commercialism on the present www. Moving to Linux is the most common, there's also screening programs and private ISP's with VPN tunnels.

The www is about interconnectivity between locations, it's the content that makes it interesting to view and the ads that make it profitable. In that sense TrainOrders is a nice world to visit.

Re: Win 10 two screen solution

I put the Dell back together after replacing the motherboard button battery and labeling all the cables going into the back of the box.

I wanted to look at a couple of photo folders but could not get past the Br icon in the task bar. The pop up showed the folder loaded but no way could I get a full screen display of the Bridge screen.

Since I now have two monitors I turned the second display on and bingo, there was the full Br display.

I am not sure the displays are set the way I want them but I can go through the Photoshop set up options to see what I can do.

Thanks for all your patience here.
