Here are the instructions for the VX150. This will disable the beep when scanning, not just the keypad. I don't have a VX170, but the proceedure appears to be similiar. For the VX150 From page 13 of the manual DISABLING THE KEYPAD BEEPER If the keypad’s Beeper creates an inconvenience, it may easily be disabled. Press the [F] key, then press the [0(SET)] key to enter the Set mode. Rotate the DIAL to select Menu Item #16 (“KEY BP”). Press the [F] key to enable adjustment of this Menu item. Rotate the DIAL to change the setting from ON to OFF. When you have made your selection, press the PTT key to save the new setting and exit to normal operation. For the VX170 From page 17 of the manual DISABLING THE KEYPAD BEEPER If the keypad’s Beeper creates an inconvenience, it may easily be disabled. Press the [F] key, then press the [0(SET)] key to enter the Set mode. Rotate the DIAL to select Menu Item #16 (“KEY BP”). Press the [F] key to enable adjustment of this Menu item. I saw the keyboard beep setting in the manual many times and never thought it had anything to do with the broadcast of a received transmission. But I just tried it and I can confirm it works. Thanks!

Thanks CB Date: 03/15/16 09:29 Re: Yaesu VX170 question Author: trainjunkie BTW, the VX-150 has a feature called the "Band Edge Beeper" which, from the description in the manual, sounds like it is the beep you get at the beginning of a received transmission. The manual states, "The VX-150 will automatically “beep” when a band edge is encountered during scanning (either in standard VFO scanning or during PMS operation). You may disable this feature, if it is annoying, without disabling the keypad beeper (the default condition for this feature is “ON”.
The procedure for disabling the Band-Edge Beeper is: -Press the [F] key, then press the [0(SET)] key, to enter the Set mode. -Rotate the DIAL to select Menu #17 (“EDGE BP”). -Press the [F] key to enable changing of this Menu item. -Rotate the DIAL to set this Menu item to OFF. -When you have made your selection, press the PTT key to save the new setting and exit to normal operation." However, when I disable this feature, it does nothing to stop the beep the OP described so it must be for something else. Too bad, I miss the keypad beep and wish I could keep that active while shutting off the beep that is broadcast with a received transmission. But shutting all the beeps off is the lesser of two evils for me. |
