Railfan Technology > Can this Image be Fixed?Date: 08/26/24 09:50 Can this Image be Fixed? Author: spider1319 I am a refugee from Kodachrome and Plus-X so I have very limited computer skills. I have seen miracles performed on some images. After a long hike and wait with the wrong ASA below is the result. I tried with my free Windows 11 photo whatever but the results as seen below are not good.. Can this be improcved or is it a basket case. Bill Webb
Date: 08/26/24 10:10 Re: Can this Image be Fixed? Author: RailRat If you have a smartphone there are some "qickie" or "simple" photo fixers on them, but you have to transfer the photo from PC to Phone using the phones USB Charge cable.

If I live long enough I hope to be the last person without a "Game Boy Phone" I know ,I know they are not game boys, my grandkids roll there eyes and correct me, but I have called them such so long that even now they call them game boys.Bill Webb

Then you can download the fixed photo from Trainorders to your PC and share it on the Western or Nostalgia board. Jim Baker Riverside, CA Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/26/24 10:36 by RailRat. Date: 08/26/24 10:37 Re: Can this Image be Fixed? Author: RailRat MattW Wrote:

I'll give it a try later tonight. If you decide to find a post processing program try the ' Auto 'features first to see how the function name changes the image and then work with the individual tools and sliders later. The tutorials on the web are a mess. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/26/24 21:55 by TCnR. Date: 08/26/24 11:21 Re: Can this Image be Fixed? Author: refarkas First I said a little prayer and then began. This is the result using both Lightroom and then Photoshop.

Where is this anyways? + with morning coffee it looks like too much color / saturation, but it shows what can be adjusted with PSE. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/27/24 06:56 by TCnR. Date: 08/27/24 08:23 Re: Can this Image be Fixed? Author: spider1319 The location is between Homly and Minthorne on the La Grande Subdivision. Bill Webb
Date: 08/28/24 13:04 Re: Can this Image be Fixed? Author: Jesse6669 My attempt. Some of the others look too saturated and color cast a bit off. It still seems too contrasty but will have to do. Photoscape X Pro.
Date: 08/28/24 14:50 Re: Can this Image be Fixed? Author: TCnR It's also interesting to see how each of the similar software works with the same base image.
Yep, the one I did is way too much color and some wrong colors, for the desert. It was a bit too much in the evening but way off by morning. oops. + seriously considering whether working in a dark room or in a sunlite room made a difference. Edited 1 time(s). Also, my humble opinion as a long-time professional printer (for what it's worth): Navigator has the best version on my computer, with good color balance and nice even contrast. Frisco1522 is right behind him with a little more sharpness but a slight magenta cast. The others are surely much better than the original, but suffer from too much saturation, brightness, softness and/or color imbalance. Though as we all know, it's pretty amazing what can be done nowadays with less-than-perfect images from the past. Makes me regret throwing out too many bad images--slide or print--from my early years shooting (ugh!!!)...

Author: mojaveflyer If you want to edit on a regular basis, I'd recommend Photoshop Elements. You can find it on Amazon for $60 - 70 and there's no subscription required. If you go to 'Editing', there's a "Guided Edit" that will walk you through the steps of editing until you master editing. PSE is all I use with the added step of Topaz DeNoise to sharpen my photos.
