A little snow better than none...
Author: Forever-Railfan-45

Off Mondays after my weekends to work...was forecasted to snow so I stayed close to home and ventured to Brewster, Ohio for the Wheeling and Lake Erie. First up is the 213 from couple days ago with four SD40-2's. Picture numbers two and threee are of today's 213 as she had to stop for a banner test that the yardmaster was supervising...

picture number four is of the Wheeling and Lake Erie 223 just east of Kidron, Ohio...and pictures numbers five and six are of the NS 66X underneath the PRR signals at Canton Yard in Canton, Ohio. Have a good rest of the week everybody.

Is the 66X traveling over the former PRR all the way from Chicago?

Thank you in advance.

That would be a yes...quite a few of them come this way but a 66X with a NS SD70 leader went Chicago line to Berea, Ohio.

A banner test is where they literally put a banner at a certain place on a track to see if the crew will stop and go by the operating rules and a etc. Quite interesting to watch. Maybe some of the road guys on here can elaborate better than I can with that but in in this case with the wheeling and Lake Erie they had a construction barricade with the word stop on it and red to see if the train coming would actually stop and go by the operating rules.

What Forever-Railfan-45 wrote is basically correct. The train has to stop before it hits the banner. The first part of the test though is give the train/crew a reason to be running at restricted speed (which requires, in a nutshell, the train to be able to stop before hitting something). The reason for running at restricted speed could be something like a red intermediate signal.
