IAIS + NS Heritage Trio
Author: trainboy03

On Monday evening the regular Iowa Interstate eastbound CBBI departed Silvis with IAIS 513, IAIS 516, NS 9059, and NS 1066. The heritage trio drew a crowd at Colona, IL (drone shot), but my dad and I were the only ones on the bridge at Wyanet (2 & 3).

NS 1066 will go back to the NS on a loaded ethanol while the IAIS pair will continue in regular service.

An appropriate match up considering the Rock and NYC shared LaSalle.

Are the trails ex RR roadbeds, Erik? Thanks! Tim V

No, the trails (since modified) parallel the canal and were originally used by horses to pull boats.

What canal is that? Do I see a "lock" basin where the concrete is in that 2nd photo? Is it still active? I had no idea a lock existed there!

Wow, great to see that cool mix of units, and would that be part of the good ol' Erie Canal?
Congrats on IOTD!

That'd be the Hennepin Canal; many decades ago, my family had
a distant relative working the 'locks' near Sheffield, Illinois.

Downstream towards Tiskilwa, it gets even more interesting....."canal-wise".

Knew virtually nothing about that canal/area 'til June, 2004 & September, 2006
whilst chasing MILW 261 over to Bureau, and back. A DeLorme map was most helpful!

Good stuff, Erik!
