UP 1943 and 4141 in Sam Timoteo Canyon
Author: z-trains

Despite the pouring rain, I was one of a fair number of railfans that went out this afternoon to see UP 1943 and UP 4141 on a westbound manifest that was heading to West Colton. The rain let up just in time, however, and I managed to snag a couple of nice shots before heading back to campus for the afternoon.

-A westbound manifest with UP 1943 and UP 4141 pauses at the signals above Hinda, California, while a throng of railfans buzz around the two heritage units.
-A few minutes later, the mainfest passes through El Casco at track speed.

Nice Shots!  We got it in Arizona, unfortuantly it was not leading.  Looks like the power was flipped.
It came in on the MFWWC-12 (Manifest-Ft. Worth-W. Colton).  Lead unit was UP 2734, followed by UP 4834, UP 1943 (Facing Backwards), and UP 4141 (Facing Backwards). Bringing up the rear are UP 6450 and UP 7990.

Great shots!!! Maybe lucky with the goverment shutdown that an FRA Inspector didn't catch the MU cable not secured.

I'm surprised the Presidential unit is being used--I thought it was going to be donated for display at the Bush Library.

Someone (probably "in the know") posted that 1943 and 4141 were going to tour the system, primarily for employee appreciation. This was posted about a month ago.

I haven't seen any "official" UP announcement, but I might have missed any discussions on that. The donation to the Bush Library will eventually happen, and I hope UP take their time.
