Tacoma Rail 7002 south, April 11, 2021

Tacoma Rail (TMBL) 7002 & 7001 provided the motive power for the Sunday train to Fredrickson, Washington

It took the train a couple hours to get out of the yard, navigate around the UP, and finally head up the hill, on the former Milwaukee Road (Tacoma & Eastern) trackage southbound

The train is seen heading upgrade in the morning. It was a heavy train, so TMBL ended up doubling the hill

The first half of the hill doubling train is first seen at the East 56th St grade crossing

At East 85th Street there's a siding where the first half of the train is spotted

Then, TMBL 7002 ran light, northbound, back down the hill, to retrive the balance of its consist

Continuing south, TMBL 7002 is seen as the trailing unit of a northbound move at the East 69th Street grade crossing. It's now late morning

The East 46th Street is the last grade crossing before the train descends the hill for the tideflats, here 7001 passes a flowering quince bush

Finally TMBL 7002 ascends the hill, for a second time, destined for E 85th Street

Having reconnected its halves, TMBL 7002 proceeds south, this time crossing Golden Given Road

TMBL 7002 was again spotted southbound, this time at Waller Road, in Allison, Washington

After switching, TMBL pushed back on the south leg of the wye in Fredrickson, with Mount Rainier in the background

Frisco didn't use red, it was Mandarin Orange.

Track looks poor. Can it really support these heavy locomotives?

Very nice!  I especially like the shot with the red flowers - goes with the paint scheme.

Overhead shots show the differences in the paint jobs on both units... Interesting...

Trailing unit has more black paint on the engine compartment and the radiators... Especially obvious in shot #2...

That is anti-skid material that’s been applied to those upper surfaces. The grit in the material is to help prevent an employee from slipping or falling when working on those surfaces.
