Western Railroad Discussion > Plow Action Western, MN Eastern ND, SD

I have reports  of BNSF plow extras in western Minnesota and Eastern SD, ND.  There was some photos of a stranded BNSF train and Spreader derailed for some reason tryng to power thru a mountain of snow in a cut
but other wise have not seen much.   In years past there was some more info out and small groups heading out to get some photos.  Similar in the past the Red River and Western would run a spreader, guessing they might have done so this year but have not seen anything.

To fill in the gap  and sneek in something from a few years ago I am posting some images of the RRVW plow train out of Breckenridge, MN.  I followed the train on a wide two day loop west from Breckenridge,MN
to Oakes, SD and back to Breckenridge. 1/4/2011.

Leaving Breckenridge I had one of my most memorable plow sequences.   Funny tho the thing I remember the most was my Border Collie, Patch with me..

1-3) plow  train appears in the distance at sunrise.

4-5) Plow finally arrives with great anticipation

6)  Patch on much different day with Sue at Lansing, Iowa.

 Patch, he was a great winter dog.   Getting out of the motel the parking lot was surrounded by a 5' snow berm.  No problem, over the top and powering throught snow to do his thing.
At Dwight I let him out of the car as there was no traffic.  He finally settled down in the shade of the car.  Born on a farm in summer he had learned to find the shade and continued no matter what the weather.
The cold never bothered him.

Fantastic snowplow series and loved the dog story!

Beautiful scenes, especially beyond the plow scenes, the old communications line, winter scenes, and entertaining "Patch" story.  Great work!

Congrats on your IOTD Bob. That sequence reminds me of chasing a BNSF plow train in northern South Dakota. I do miss the action ...........not really. I can only imagine what it would be like if I was still driving crews this year as Bismarck/Mandan has broken the total season snowfall record this winter. I love the dog story as well. Thank you for holding down the Northern Fort.
