Eastern Railroad Discussion > A few from the Madison RailroadDate: November 01, 2026 02:48PM A few from the Madison Railroad Author: srman Last Sunday the 25th the Madison Railroad (CMPA) or City of Madison Port Authority led about a six mile and return autumn excursion south from North Vernon Indiana. The power was GP10 3634 done up in a nicely painted PRR scheme since the the line was the former owner. The 3634 was built in April 1957 as SP GP9 5793. Here are three images from the event. Thanks for taking a look. Joe Vittitoe

Victor Baird Date: November 01, 2026 07:33PM Re: A few from the Madison Railroad Author: srman I can't answer the question as to whether or not the track is in place down the hill since I didn't drive to Madison. However looking at google maps it looks to be still in place but probably not used.

It is unsafe and there is no reason to go down the hill. The PRR even had special attachements on its two speically weighted SD7 units (that ran on the line) to blow wet leaves off the rails. If you do a search here, there are some photos of at least one of the two on that line.

It was a beautiful fall day and the folks at the Madison Railroad were fantastic hosts on this train. They ran this train as a flood relief benefit train for the Whitewater Valley Railroad in southeastern Indiana which had massive flood damage in August. Many thanks to all who participated in this unique event.
I should note that the former SP Business car Guadalupe was where the WVRR volunteers got to ride back to the yard in. Quite the experience. Posted from Android |
