NS Bumps Train Speeds up by 20 MPH in Georgia Corridor

Norfolk Southern Railway is increasing train speed from 10 mph to 30 mph between Atlanta and Macon, Ga.

Communities along this rail route include East Point, Jonesboro, Orchard Hill, Milner, Barnesville, Forsyth, Smarr, Bolingbroke and Lorane.

Approximately 15 to 28 trains travel along this north-south line seven days a week. Following track work that permits faster trains, speed is being increased to expedite freight service for customers and to minimize traffic disruptions for motorists.

Train speed already has increased between Macon and Griffin, Ga., and Norfolk Southern plans to increase train speed to 30 mph between Griffin and Atlanta at the beginning of April.

Motorists are reminded to obey railroad crossing signals and warnings and to use caution when approaching all highway-rail grade crossings.
