UPRR Selected as GM Supplier of the Year for 2003

Union Pacific has been named a 2003 General Motors Supplier of the Year for its overall business performance for GM. This is the third consecutive year Union Pacific has received the award, which was presented to UP Chairman and CEO Dick Davidson April 3 during ceremonies in Prague, Czech Republic.

"Union Pacific is representative of the type of company we want to grow with as we drive to be the best worldwide," said Bo Andersson, vice president, GM Worldwide Purchasing Control & Logistics. "Union Pacific has a balanced focus on performance and behavior that supports GM's priorities. They are a role model for all of our suppliers."

"The real honorees for this award are the employees in the field who work every day to deliver General Motors parts and vehicles," said Julie Krehbiel, UP assistant vice president-GM. Union Pacific serves six on-line General Motors plants and handles more than 2.4 million GM vehicles in more than 1,500 origin/destination pairs across the railroad's network.

The GM Supplier of the Year award began as a global program in 1992. Award-winners are selected by a global team of executives from purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and logistics who base their decisions on supplier performance in quality, service, technology and price. This year, General Motors honored 77 suppliers for their excellence throughout 2003. Union Pacific was the only railroad selected.
