RBMN Rails are Site of Another Derailment in PA

Crews were working Friday to right three derailed train cars that derailed Thursday off Oak Street near Convention Hall in Pittston Twp., PA on the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern.

The 69-car Canadian Pacific Railway train 166 was enroute from Binghamton, NY to Oak Island, NJ when the three cars left the tracks around 21:30 EST. Ironically, this is the same area where about two dozen cars jumped the tracks, but remained upright last December 28. It is also at least the third derailment at the location since the December 28 incident.

"They had their own crew up there as soon as it happened," said Pittston Township Police Chief Stephen Rinaldi said of Reading & Northern Railroad.

With the derailment, Canadian Pacific Railway has been forced to detour traffic again over Norfolk Southern's Harrisburg and Reading Lines to reach Allentown Yard. Norfolk Southern also owns trackage rights over the RBMN and recently pulled trains from the route to give RBMN a chance to complete small sections of track maintenance.
