KCS Opens Harmon Siding on Meridian Speedway Route

On March 30, Kansas City Southern opened the newly constructed Harmon siding on the "Meridian Speedway" at milepost 64 in Morton, Mississippi.

The new siding reduces the distance between sidings by half, thereby cutting the train wait time for meets and passes and cutting the run time anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and enhances overall train performance on the Meridian Speedway.

Harmon siding is named for retired general superintendent, Jerry Harmon. Harmon began his career on the Illinois Central before joining the Mid-South in 1962.

KCS purchased Mid-South in 1993. Harmon retired in 2003 as general superintendent of the Transcontinental Division.
