Bayline Receives New Motive Power

Rail Management Corporation's Bay Line Railroad LLC is receiving a quartet of remanufactured GP40-2 locomotives.

The four units are arriving from Watco's Inman Shop in Baytown, Texas and are receiving the traditional Bay Line green and yellow paint after being mechanically overhauled. The units are former Canadian National Railway, ex-Grand Trunk/Detroit Toledo & Ironton units that have been purchased to replace displaced GP38s that previously worked for the Bay Line and are now assigned to RMC's M&B Railroad.

Road numbers on the GP40-2s are reported as 6416-6419 and are arriving off the Union Pacific to CSXT interchange in New Orleans.

Bay Line was purchased by RMC from Stone Container Corp. in January, 1994. The line from Panama City, FL to Dothan , AL was consolidated with the A&G Railroad to expand operations from Dothan to Abbeville, AL. BAYL operates over trackage rights on CSXT between Dothan and Grimes, AL to access the Abbeville line.

BAYL handles approximately 28,000 carloads annually. Smurfit-Stone Container is the largest customer with operations in Panama City, FL. Other customers include: Port of Panama City, Berg Steel Pipe, Cargill Steel, Arizona Chemical, Whitaker Oil and Conrad Yelvington Distributors.

BAYL handles a wide variety of commodities including: paper products, lumber, chemicals, coal, stone, steel and fertilizer.
