RailAmerica, Inc. reported its freight carloads for the month and ten months ended October 31, 2005.

Total carloads for October 2005 were 112,360, up 2.3% from 109,839 in October 2004. The acquisitions of the Fremont line in Michigan and the Alcoa roads net of the impact of the sale of the Arizona Eastern Railway in 2004, accounted for 2,206 of the carload increase. On a "same railroad" basis, October 2005 carloads increased 0.3% to 109,484, from 109,169 in 2004.

For the ten months ended October 31, 2005, total carloads increased 5.7% to 1,088,324 from 1,030,066 in 2004. On a "same railroad" basis for the same period, carloads were 1,044,165 up 2.0% from 1,023,234 in 2004. "Same railroad" totals exclude carloads associated with railroads, or portions of railroads, sold or acquired by the Company after January 1, 2004.

Historically, the Company has found that carload information may be indicative of freight revenue on its railroads, but may not be indicative of total revenue, operating expenses, operating income or net income.
