CSX Transportation will be getting a more uniformed look this year, as many of the leased locomotives on the property will be departing. As new GMLG-EMD SD70MACs arrive, CSXT's previous motive power shortage is being quelled and many of the leased EMDs have been tucked away in storage.

Now a decision has been made to surrender the lease on more than one-hundred SD40-2 models from at least three separate owners. Scheduled for return are 49 CEFX-owned SD40-2's, 47 LLPX-owned SD40-2's, and one VMV-owned SD40-2. The balance of the CEFX-owned SD40-2's, some 50 units, were scheduled to be given up at the end of February.

According to some reports, many of the units are now destined to the Union Pacific for various term leases.
