V&T Celebrates Silver Spike Ceremony for First Phase of Reconstruction

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad, operating between Virginia City and Carson City, Nevada, celebrated the completion of a $6.7M upgrade to the railroad's reconstruction.

On Wednesday Nevada state officials and railroad supporters were in Virginia City to celebrate the completion of the first phase of reconstruction. At the Silver Spike ceremony, US Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid was given two silver V&T spikes mounted on a plaque. Reid played a key role in getting 10 million dollars attached to a federal transportation bill for the project.

Lieutenant Governor Lorraine Hunt was praised for her help in getting a one million-dollar grant for the project from the state Commission on Tourism.

When completed, the tourist track will run about 19 miles between Virginia City and Carson City.
