Amtrak is reporting a service altering disruption to its westbound Cardinal Train #51, which departed yesterday afternoon from Washington, D.C. on its way to Chicago, Illinois.

According to initial reports, the train is believed to be derailed near South Portsmouth, Kentucky, just to the south shore of the Ohio River across from Portsmouth, Ohio, on CSX Transportation's former Chesapeake & Ohio route. At least two of the train's cars are said to be off the tracks, however the severity of the derailment and the possibility of injuries has not been reported.
