KCS Derailment Should be Cleared from Plano, TX Today

Authorities expect to re-open Jupiter Road near Plano Parkway in Plano, Texas, this morning after the cleanup of a weekend train derailment is finished.

A train partially derailed on Sunday and continued to shut down north- and southbound traffic on Monday.

According to authorities, firefighters were dispatched to the Sunday afternoon incident in which 16 cars of 80-car Kansas City Southern freight train, symbol 202, jumped the tracks in three locations between Avenue N and Shiloh Road.

No hazardous material was found on the train and no injuries were reported, fire officials said Monday.

Allen Upchurch, a city transportation engineer, said Monday that railroad officials in charge of cleaning up the wreckage hoped to reopen the roadway by morning rush hour Tuesday.
