CSXT Launches Pair of Maintenance Projects for Line Upgrades

In keeping with its ongoing commitment to provide the safest and most efficient rail service possible, CSX Transportation has begun two maintenance projects on its tracks between Richmond, VA, and Newport News, VA, and between Rocky Mount, NC, and Florence, SC.

To complete this work as safely and quickly as possible, while providing for the needs of its freight customers and for Amtrak intercity passenger service, CSXT maintenance crews will work Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the Virginia project, and from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the Carolinas project.

During those times, no train traffic will operate on these sections of track, including Amtrak and freight service. The work between Richmond and Newport News is scheduled for completion by March 2, and the work between Rocky Mount and Florence is scheduled for completion by February 23.

Amtrak has adjusted its schedules and its customers should contact them for further information.

CSXT regrets any inconvenience that might arise from these schedule adjustments, but Amtrak service will benefit from the track work once it is completed.

CSXT annually spends more than $1 billion annually in capital investment to maintain and improve its infrastructure and capacity.

The work in Virginia involves the replacement of more than 33,000 crossties and the work in the Carolinas involves the installation of more than 76,000 feet of continuous welded rail.
