BNSF Derailment Cleanup Still Underway at Grizzly, MT

Crews from BNSF Railway are continuing clean-up efforts at the site of Saturday's derailment at Grizzly, Montana.

According to BNSF Railway spokesman Gus Melonas, intermodal train Z-CHCPTL2-09, enroute from Chicago, Illinois to Portland, Oregon, derailed three locomotives and six double-stack well cars at an interlocking on the Hi-Line Subdivision. The derailment occurred at 13:35 MST on Saturday afternoon and resulted in no injuries or hazardous materials being released.

The containers that were dumped along the right-of-way were loaded with tile, paper products and hair spray bottles. The wreckage was pushed out of the way by clean-up crews on Sunday morning, restoring the route for rail traffic, that includes some 45 freight trains and two Amtrak trains daily.

Melonas says that cleanup will take between three weeks and a month to complete, bringing crews to East Glacier Park and filling the motels there. Bill
