MMA Derailment on CPR Bridge Reportedly Caused by Wind

High winds pelted the Northeast United States and Eastern Canada on Friday, causing multiple power outages and signal failures, along with at least one precarious derailment.

Montreal, Maine & Atlantic 93-car "Job 2", enroute from Montreal, Quebec to Millinocket, Maine, was just departing Montreal and crossing the Mercier Bridge, as wind gusts of more than 70 miles-per-hour thrust against a five-well double-stack car, derailing it and one additional boxcar. The incident occurred on the Canadian Pacific Railway-owned bridge directly and caused some concern for crews trying to reach the derailment. It was decided that the wreckage was stable enough to not send anyone onto the bridge until the winds subsided.

There were luckily no injuries when the derailment occurred.

The route typically sees a mix of freight and AMT commuter trains, all of which were canceled through Saturday morning. The containers aboard the well cars were all reportedly empty.
