BNSF Derailment Cleared North of Ethan, SD

A BNSF Railway derailnent north of Ethan, South Dakota has forced crews to rerail and remove eight cars of a 21-car train hauling ethanol or liquid fertilizer.

The train was enroute to Mitchell, SD when it derailed on Sunday afternoon. There were no injuries and only a small amount of liquid fertilizer was leaked from one of the cars damaged in the derailment.

Gus Melonas, a spokesman for BNSF, said the cause of the derailment was under investigation and that the company expected the line to be reopened by late Monday afternoon.
